Learning Something New :)
Decided to Learn Something New
I have officially been a “qualified” graphic designer for a year now, (YES A YEAR, I can’t believe university is just a semi-distant memory) and I have enjoyed doing a lot of interesting print and screen projects revolving around both graphic design and illustration. One thing I have never bothered to venture into was 3D, I just assumed it was a crazy logistical world that I would never be able to understand. I remember watching my fellow graduates building their final major pieces if Autodesk’s 3DX Max in complete awe.
After finding CInema 4D on my design studio computer I decided to open it up, after watching Ian - our in-house 3D nerd - build an awesome Aston Martin looking car. At first the abundance of information that sat before my eyes was just too much for me to process, and I closed it and just though ‘well, this isn’t for me’ but the next day in a quiet office I gave i a whirl.
Grey Scale Gorilla, if you ever decide to tackle 3D model building, is a fantastic tutorial site set up to help 3Ders both new and old friends with the 3-Dimensional world. I sat their most of the day creating a little, crappy, model spaceship with animated round an extremely basic landscape, and even though it was beyond terrible, for me it has been a little motivational platform.
Since then I have created a little American-Diner style glass coffee pot, and random spherical balls, and I know they won’t be winning any awards but I its given me the drive to try and be a proficient at a new skill, which hopefully I would be able to use on my resume in the future.
